NORWICH A Norwich1 man was arrested Saturday evening and charged with the assault of a former girlfriend. Nathaniel S.
Harris, 41, was charged with assault in the third degree, criminal attempt to commit home invasion, and violation of a protective order, Norwich police said in a statement. Police said they received numerous calls at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday concerning a domestic disturbance in the area of 124 Washington St.
According to the victim and witnesses, police said in a statement, Harris had attempted to force entry into the victim’s residence, while the victim was inside.
When the victim left the residence, the police statement said, Harris then assaulted the victim.
Police said witnesses intervened and restrained Harris until police arrived. The victim was transported to Backus Hospital for minor injuries. Harris was held on $ 50,000 bond, pending arraignment at Norwich Superior Court on Monday.
